Bike Aid is a bike workshop, which tries to supply refugees from Berlin and Brandenburg.
Thereto we use the repairing station of the Lanternes Rouges at the wagon place „Schwarzer Kanal“. Here the workshops take place regularly.
Bike Aid wants to provide refugees from Berlin and Brandenburg to get their own bike. The idea behind it is to supply the refugees in their precarious situation with a little widening of the mobility.
The ownership of a bike may help to arrange a few activities, to get in contact with other people, to build networks and to fight for the rights of ones own. We know, that we are not able to abolish the repressive legal curtail of mobility by the institutional racism („Residenzpflicht“, „Gutschein“-system etc.) but we have the hope to better the situations of the day-by-day-life of the people.
That foor Bike Aid is working on a structure, which empowers the people to organize themself and to get a bike. In special this means, that we offer the infrastructure to repair a bike, we offer rooms, the bikes, tools and so on. The goal is to give the space to the people to build up a bike and/or repair it at no costs.
There is a workshop oto get a bike every 2. and 4. sunday in the month at the Schwarzer Kanal at 2pm.

In the future we would like to support people in Brandenburg and to give them the possibility, to repair or build up a new bike by themself. That for we would like to organize workshops in Brandenburg. So we will have to transport tools and parts to the outer Berlin.Because of missing infrastructure this is very important in Brandenburg.
To keep the workshops running we are still searching for people with the knowledge about bikes.
But also everybody without any experience with fitting bikes is very welcome. Always there is enough to do and there is no better way for learning by doing.
Further we are in need of donations in form of bikes, sparing parts und tools to keep the project running.
